Dilkoon Outing – May 2025

What a fantastic weekend we had, out at Bob and Veronica’s MSO at Dilkoon. We were met by two indigenous characters, and Bigfoot as well.

There was a total of sixteen units with thirty people attending, plus one of Bob’s sons, and his family, taking it up to 35 for a while. Some of us arrived early to take advantage of the peaceful site, and to enjoy the wood fires that Bob supplied with wood, rounding up the logs with his toys.

Don T welcomed us all to Dilkoon country, and thanked newcomers Keith and Sandra, who are hopefully going to be our Ramornie hosts in September. I was amazed to see June, who had a heart pacemaker fitted on Wednesday at Grafton Hospital, rock up on Friday, all keen to get on with things as they happened.

We did have two New Englanders join us for the weekend, so thanks to Ron and Jennell for coming, and we hope to see you next month at Copmanhurst. Unfortunately, Tracey had to do a double shift at the elections, so she missed out on Saturday’s activities.

As soon as there was a quorum, the ladies set up a table in the hay shed and played away to their heart’s content. Other ladies did their arts and crafts, keeping idle hands very busy.

The agenda got thrown out the window very quickly. Why not be flexible, eh! We were going to set up a game of Finska when a shower put that idea away. The boys had erected a marquee with sides and all, but it was raining heavier in the marquee than outside, so the sight of people huddled under their umbrellas in the marquee was hilarious. The showers just kept coming, all the outside games had to be put on hold, and everyone either sat in front of the fires outside or inside. We had rainfall of 5.4mm to 9.00 am Saturday, and 6.3mm to Sunday, with showers on Wednesday and Sunday. Bob very generously provided use of a generator to light up the yard and inside, but of course, with all the fresh air, everyone was ready to go to bed early.

Nola put it to the mob that with the cold, wet weather and early sunset, it would be better to have our Saturday meal at lunch time, instead of dinner, and everybody agreed. So, Tim and Ray got onto the BBQ and grilled the onions, the beef and chicken patties. Nola and Anna were kept busy making up various forms of salad and providing the hamburger buns. The whole meal went down a treat, with fruit salad and custard available for dessert.

We held the raffles, with the usual winners, and even the special ladies gift went to a deserving lady. Then two Easter Bunnies turned up (one was blind, but smiling as it was led around), handing out Easter Eggs and chocolates to everyone.

Sunday was the same weather, sunny patches with showers, so it was fun packing up, dodging the showers, then slushing through the wet track down to the gate and away.

Regards, Don Brackenreg (Secretary).
