Copmanhurst Outing – June 2025

Well, what a great weekend at the Copmanhurst Campdraft Circle. Unfortunately, quite a few who had booked had to pull out of coming because they found something else to do. Don T and Yvonne couldn’t find a tyre in the whole of Australia, and after waiting for a fortnight to replace a flat on their Coaster, could only come for the Saturday day in their car. Gary and Nola flew to Thailand for an adventure of a lifetime. Terry and Marilyn still can’t get their motorhome out of a huge bog hole in their driveway, so they came in their car for Saturday as well. Pam had to take care of her husband, and Robo and Marjorie had something come up as well. Ken, Dawn and Evie had to sit their grandpuppies. So, we had seven units camping, 13 people, plus the four day trippers.

It looked very threatening Thursday night with really black clouds and rumbling thunder, but we scored only 0.6mm rain, then the rest of the weekend was a mixture of some cloud, plenty of sunshine, and very cold nights, but no rain. The area looked different with the cliff edge getting closer to the amenities block, and the boat ramp downstream totally inaccessible. As soon as there was a quorum, the ladies assembled under Carla’s awning to chat and play their card games, while the men brought out a couple of fire pits, and spent time chatting about life in general.

On Friday afternoon a fun game of Finska was played in the rough unmown grass, making the throwing pin bounce in an unpredictable manner. Yours truly managed to win with the lowest score, Bob was second, Keith third. This was followed by the Happy Afternoon, and then everybody went back to their places for dinner.

Saturday, we chatted until it was time to pay our fees to the Treasurer, and then had a confusing game of Raffle Dice with Elaine gleefully putting coins in the Pot, and Belinda being the eventual winner. We then made our way, some in the handy cars, others strode up the hill to the Rest Point Hotel Bistro for a Pub Lunch. After lunch, many strolled over to the new Light Horse Memorial over the road from the pub. The listed game of Washer Toss didn’t happen as many were willing to rest and chat after their meal. The raffles were run, with even Robert Fahey winning a prize.

There was another Happy Afternoon, sitting around the fires, which were magic with different coloured flames adding to the vision. Again, everyone went back to their places for dinner. On Sunday, the campers packed up and left Copmanhurst with plans to come back again.

Many thanks to Don T and Yvonne’s son Grant, who towed the CVR Trailer out from Grafton for us, and to Elbob for towing it back to Grafton, collecting the signboards on the way.
