Valla Beach turned out to be a very good venue, though a long way for those living up north, but then it’s the same for outings held up north, a long way for those living in the Coffs Harbour area.
It’s what we have RV’s for, to travel. Twenty people attended the outing, three of whom were ‘newbies’. We welcomed Toni and husband Andrew plus Robyn.
We played finska in an area outside area creating lots of laughter and fun. Gary was the ultimate winner.
The next day we played two games of washer toss. Marilyn won the first game and June beat Gary in the second game after having to have a play off.
On Thursday morning we had David, from the Westpac Helicopter Appeal, give us a run down on what his position is with the organisation. He is the Regional Partnerships Officer and explained this to everyone. It was a very interesting talk, many not realising the scope of work, number of employees, and assistance they give in an emergency. He explained where their finances come from and the fact that there is a big shortfall, hence the need to have organisations, individuals and bequests in wills. Our chapter has been donating since 2005 and in that time, we have donated nearly $26,000, a very incredible performance. It was a very informative session and should be held every two or three years.
Nearly all members enjoyed the meal at the Valla Beach Tavern which provided a courtesy bus for transport.
A lot of the members left early having other engagements elsewhere on Friday. The six remaining members enjoyed chatting about this and that, then went to the raffles held by the permanent residents at the Holiday Park. They were very friendly and welcoming, one lady giving us a plate of cheese, dip and other nibblies. Tim won $20 and Don Ferguson won $50 after another resident gave Don his winning ticket.
All in all, a very relaxing and friendly meeting was had by all.
