23 people and one furbaby enjoyed a weekend of beautiful weather alongside the river at Cangai. We were pleased to welcome Robyn, Christine & Steve and hope they will return soon. It was lovely to see Brent & Ellie after a long absence. Most vehicles were in place by Friday morning and our events began early. Ken brought out the paints, brushes & canvasses and some great paintings soon appeared.
After lunch, the first of the paddock & field events began with Finska & washer toss. A tally of winners was kept throughout the weekend so that gold medals could be presented at the end. Smaller medal ceremonies were held after most events with gold coins given as prizes and photos, flag raising & national anthem taking place. That night there were competitions for the best campfire as there were four fires burning throughout the evening. The Olympic quiz – “Is this an Olympian or an Aldi product” – caused much laughter at the pronunciation of the names.
Saturday began with Neill officially welcoming everyone to the Oldie Olympics, followed by golf putting & pool noodle javelin throwing. Anna & Ray were the only competitors in the kayaking, with Anna taking out the gold medal. No one wanted to enter the swimming events (surprise, surprise!!), however, the games of skill held under the marquis were hotly contested. We had all sorts of dice, cup & ping-pong challenges to enter.
There were some wonderful variations of the green & gold Olympic uniforms modelled at these Olympics. I think Gary took the prize. I’m not sure whether he was a Mexican or an Aussie in his green & gold sombrero & Ronaldingo shirt. We even had a visit from a Scottish athlete, Robyn.
The overall medal tally for the weekend saw Ray 1st, Christine 2nd & Terry 3rd. They received medals made by Ken which looked exactly like the Paris gold medals. Thanks, Ken. Thanks to Nola & her wonderful group of ladies and Terry & Ray’s Bar-B-Q skills we were soon able to relax & enjoy a hamburger lunch provided by the club. Nanny naps, card playing and general relaxing with friends were very much appreciated after such as busy schedule. The raffle brought a lovely array of treats to be won and happy hour followed soon after.
